Q:What is SF MusicTech Summit?
The SF MusicTech Summit XII which will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 2012 will bring together over 1000 visionaries in the evolving internet music/business/technology ecosystem, along with the best and brightest developers, entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, journalists, musicians, and the organizations who work with them at the convergence of culture and commerce. We meet to do business and move the industry forward, in a proactive, conducive to dealmaking environment.
Are you interested in meeting and interacting with many of the leading lights from the music/technology community? Learning about the bleeding edge? Finding business opportunities with folks who will be leading the way into the evolving music/technology ecosystem? Helping to establish and participate in a Northern California music and related music/technology market? If so, the SF MusicTech Summit is an event for you.
Q:How did SF MusicTech Summit come about?
There is a plethora of music/tech talent in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is the epicenter of internet innovation. Yet, most of us only saw each other once or twice a year – in Austin for SXSW or France for MIDEM. I created the SF MusicTech Summit so we could meet in our own city, and so start-ups could bring their whole team. I love getting people together. My core mission is to assemble the smartest visionaries in music and technology to connect, form alliances and do business, which moves the music industry forward in a positive way.
Q:What made the founders choose the entertainment industry?
I co-founded the SF MusicTech Summit with my wife Shoshana, as we both have music industry backgrounds. I was co-founder of the Green Witch Internet Radio, which was acquired by CMGI (NASDAQ: CMGI) in 2000, and a co-founder of The Future of Music Coalition, a non-profit artist advocacy think tank based out of Washington D.C. I co-founded the SF MusicTech Summit with my wife Shoshana who is a musician, lawyer, and band manager. Her industry experience includes managing George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, working at major labels like Island Records, Motown, and BMG, performing live as musical director of regional california productions of Rent, and working as COO at the organization that runs ticketing for large events like Burning Man.
Q:What is something unique/interesting that most people wouldn’t know about SF MusicTech Summit?
The SF MusicTech Summit takes place in the heart of Japantown, the largest Japanese enclave in the United States. It’s an incredible neighborhood which is home to many authentic Japanese restaurants, bars, stores, and a vibrant Japanese culture rarely found outside of Japan.
Q:What type of experience does the SF MusicTech Summit try to provide for its audiences?
We’re about connecting people to do business, so there are lots of sessions, schmoozing, parties, and more!
Q:Tell us about the work ethic and teamwork amongst the SF MusicTech Summit team and how they achieve small/large goals together?
I work all day with my wife in our home office, and she kicks my ass. We are fortunate to work with fabulous Production Managers, who help things run smoothly.
Q:What are some of SF MusicTech Summit’s most recent achievements?
My proudest achievements are when our attendees do deals, and everyone goes away happy.
Q:What do you enjoy most about your company?
Building an awesome event.
Q:Do you have any advice for other entertainment entrepreneurs out there?
Keep moving forwards.
Q:Would you like to make any shout outs?
